1.
Picking a Colour
Choosing a colour to paint your home with may seem like the easiest part of the painting process, but it can be more difficult than you
think!
With over 16,000 Big Brand Colours using our Colour MatchingService, there’s a lot to choose from!
The best way to choose your colours for
your home is to firstly check out our social media channels for some
inspiration on colours and schemes, and then to buy yourself a tester pot.
Our tester pots are a great way of trying out your colour
before you go for a big tin.
We always recommend testing our colours on either
the wall you’re wanting to paint on, or our Axus Colour Testing Board as white
paper can often skew the colour you’re after providing an inaccurate depiction
of it.
Make sure you test at least an A4 size of the colour as it
will give you a better idea of what your chosen colour will be!

leave you with rough and often lumpy-looking walls.

first place, however some commonly needed piece of equipment to fix any imperfections
in your wall are:
·
Filler

4.
Lightly
Sand your Walls (skip this step if you’re using matt paint on matt paint)
What you will need for this step:
Satin and gloss paint has a sheen to it which can often make
it difficult for matte paints to stick to the surface. To aid this adhesion, it’s
best to either lightly sand down your walls using gentle pressure in a
circular motion.
However, if you have a very large space to paint, or don’t
have the time to sand down your walls, a primer such as Zinsser’s Gardz which
will help the different types of paint to adhere to each other.
5.
Clean your Walls
If you have sanded down your walls, cleaning them is a
necessary step to ensure that your walls will be smooth with your final coat of
paint.
What you will need for this step:
·
Bucket
·
Sponge
You can use some diluted sugar soap to clean down your walls
(ensure that you’re using gloves during this step as sugar soap can sometimes
be an irritant).
Use a large sponge and clean down your walls with this
diluted sugar-soap mixture.
Make sure that you rinse down the walls with water after
this step is complete.
6.
Tape Off Areas you don’t want Painted
Whether its light switches or other walls, make sure that
you tape off any areas you don’t want paint getting onto.
What you will need for this step:
The best type of tape to use is Low tac Decorator’s Tape as
it will be less likely to remove your paint when it is peeled away. Ensure that
you pull the tape off the wall very gently when you decide to remove it.
If you are painting your walls a different colour to your
skirting boards, you can use Masq tape and Drape 90 Day Gold to tape off your
skirting board and ensure that they are fully protected from any paint
splatters or drips.
7.
Use Dust Sheets to Cover Areas
Dust Sheets are a great way of preventing your paint from ruining
your carpet, laminate, surfaces and even bits of furniture too.
What you will need for this step:
The best way to ensure that your paint will not ruin the
rest of your room is to remove any pieces of furniture or accessories from the
space before you begin painting.
However, for larger pieces of furniture or surfaces which cannot
be removed from your space, covering them with either a Polythene or Cotton
twill Dust Sheet will ensure that they continue looking fresh and new.
Now you’re ready to start painting!
