Spectacular Spooky Decorating Ideas | Decorating Centre

Halloween is such a fun time of year! From pumpkin picking,
to dressing up and all the sweets, it really is a time of year to let your
imagination loose!
Whether you have little ones who love the idea of trick or
treating, or whether you’re a grown-up who just delights in the gothic spookiness of the season, there’s always a brilliant way of making your home
into a spectacular spooky space cheaply and quickly too!
With one of the spookiest times of the year coming just
around the corner, here are some great Halloween decorating ideas for you to
make with your family this Hallows Eve.
Below are Decorating Centre Online’s Top Ideas for
decorating your home this Halloween:
1.
Bring in the Bats!
Halloween makes you think of a few spooky creatures like
cats and rats, but mostly bats! However, we don’t want bat decorations up all
year do we (well, some of the more gothic-inclined amongst us might, but still!)
so something which can be easily disposed of is perfect for making your spooky
little bat decorations!
A very easy way of making lots of bat decorations is to use
a stencil (easily printed online) using cardboard or something else easily
recycled!
For a more elegant bat decoration, you
can always use wallpaper as your material preferably one with some sort of pattern
on it- damask works wonders for an elegant Halloween display!
Something like our Delphi
Glitter Damask Wallpaper Black works wonders for creating those elegant bat creatures!
Remember, you can
always put some thread through their bodies to make them fly from your ceiling!
2.
Recycle Bottles for an Extra Spooky Touch
A fab way of making
creative and cheap Halloween decorations is to easily upcycle what you already
have in your home!
If you have any
leftover bottles- be it wine or otherwise!- you can easily and quickly paint
them for a spooky feel! Using one of our black paints- if you’re wanting them
to last, I would recommend using our Zinsser’s AllCoat Paint, otherwise they
will chip- you can easily create spooky bottles for your home Halloween décor.
You can either paint
them in a solid black colour, or you can dry brush a lighter grey on top for an
extra spooky and older-looking effect.
For an extra touch,
you can add some dried flowers/plants into the bottles and make them look like
old, untouched vases!
3.
Chalkboard Cemetery
With many of us
already owning chalkboard walls, doors or even frames either as a plaything for
our kids or for just as a helpful tool to remember our shopping lists,
chalkboards are so handy for every time of year!
One of the easiest
ways to add a little bit of spookiness into your some without adding any ‘boo’
to your bucks (I know, that one’s terrible) is to simply use the chalkboard
you already have and have a bit of a doodle session!
Simply drawing some
Halloween-style creatures and situations such as ghosts, cemeteries and other
spooky adventures, you can add the Halloween spirit into your home in no time!
If you don’t already
have a chalkboard wall, door, frame or whatever in your home, they’re super easy
to make too!
Simply buy a pot of
our chalkboard paint, or even our aerosol and paint it onto your surface, leave
it to dry, do another coat and you’re all set!

4.
Wallpaper Wreath
A fab way to make the outside
of your home as spooky as the inside of your home without breaking the budget is
to decorate it with leftover wallpaper scraps!
Making a wreath out of
leftover wallpaper is not only a fab way or recycling your wallpaper, but it
can also be a beautiful welcoming piece of décor for anyone entering your home
too!
The best colour to use
for your wreath would be black, however, if your wallpaper is a different
colour, you can always make the wreath out of what you have and then spray
paint it the colour you’re after (just make sure you leave at least 30 cm away
from the wreath, surface to prevent drips as well as spray ever little but of
the wreath too).
One of the easiest
ways to make your wreath starts with a cardboard circle and then cut your
wallpaper into thin strips of about 2cm width and 15cm length.
By folding these bits
of wallpaper over and then gluing them on top of each other on the cardboard,
you will give the illusion that the wallpaper is all folded over each other,
creating a beautiful-looking wreath! Once it is fully dried, you can then spray
paint it too!
This type of wreath
isn’t just reserved for Halloween either, you can create your own Christmas,
Easter and even Summertime wreaths just like above, by simply changing the
colour of the wallpaper which you are using!
5.
Paint Tin Ghosts!
Remember, anything can
be spooky if you just give it a little nudge in the right direction!
If you’ve just
finished some painting (perhaps from your recycled bottles Halloween DIY job)
make sure that you keep the tins leftover!
These tins can easily
be used to create cute ghosts and other hanging Halloween decorations too! By
simply spray painting your tins white and gluing some tissue paper from the
bottom of the tins, you can make some scary-looking ghosts to hang from trees,
or even your ceiling!
Just make sure that
your paint tins are fully dried and cleaned from any leftover paint before you
hang them upside down or you may find yourself with some cleaning up to do!
The best tins to use
for this are any paint tins which contained water-based paint as this can be
easily cleaned out with some water, whereas the oil-based paints will need
turpentine to remove it and will end up smelling quite strongly of both the
paint and the turpentine afterwards too.
There are so many more
ways which you can add some Halloween fun into your home this October by simply
using some extra goodies that you have lying around the house! Just make sure that
you let your imagination run wild and your home will be sensationally spooky in
no time!
