DCO Colour of the Year: Navy Blue! | Decorating Centre Online

So, this year has been quite the year of change for DCO so far- and we hope it continues that way too!

With the help of the team as well as our in-house expertise, we have come together to decide on this year’s DCO Colour of the Year!

So, the colour we have decided that will be Decorating Centre Online’s Colour of the Year is Navy Blue!

This lush colour is perfect for most spaces in your home as a result of its versatile and easily- accessorised colour scheme.

This colour has been growing from strength to strength this year and is definitely on the radar to be a fantastically popular colour this year and for a few years to come too!

Here at Decorating Centre Online, we love navy Blue so much that we have decided to incorporate it into our brand-new logo!

So, you can definitely guarantee that this stunning colour will be a hit with us!

1. Styling with Navy Blue is easy- use a contrasting colour like white to bring in the lightness
2. Accessorise with metallic colours in the space
3. Try it and go bold!

Styling Navy Blue in the Home

Navy Blue is such a fantastic colour to style in the home as a result of its darkly elegant shade, as well as the variety of shades available which can give different atmosphere’s to different spaces.

For example, if you are painting your bathroom, working for a more nautical theme, the discontinued colour from B&Q (our Colour Match service can match some discontinued colours- DM, Call or Email us for moreinformation) Deep Blue Sea would match perfectly in a space like this!

However, if you are after a statement wall for your living room, or other space which is often larger than a bathroom, working with a darker Navy Blue Colour such as our Colour Match equivalent of Farrow &Ball’s Hague Blue is a great way in which to bring that elegant and modern feel into your space!

Navy Blue is also a great colour to accessorise with metallic shades. From metallic lamps to wall hangings and other accessories which you currently have, or are going to have, in your navy-blue space, metallics work fantastically with a very wide range of navy blue colours!

What are the best colours which will work well with Navy Blue?

Just like mentioned in the paragraph above, metallic shades work great with a navy-blue colour as long as they are the same tone as the Navy Blue.

For example, if you have chosen a colder, darker shade of Navy for your walls, make sure that if you choose silver accessories to go with it, that they are also colder and darker shades of silver rather than a warmer and lighter shade.

This will ensure that your room looks proportionate, well thought-out and balanced as a result of the colour scheme, rather than looking mismatched and unbalanced.

However, if you are using navy blue as a feature wall- either as a wallpaper or a paint- one of the best colours which will work with navy blue for the rest of the walls is a white shade.

How can I use navy Blue in my Home without sucking out any light from the space?

The colour of the white shade very much depends on the tone and shade of the navy blue which you have chosen- for the reasons stated above.

The best two colours which work fantastically together are our Colour Match equivalent of Farrow & ball’s Hague Blue and Wevet.

This is because, even in a smaller space, the navy blue will add an element of modern elegance to it, whereas the Wevet will bring out the airiness and light in the room, despite having a darker shade incorporated in the area.

However, if you are after something less stark and bright to contrast your darker navy blue Colour match equivalent of Farrow and Ball’s Hague Blue, you can always work with our other Colour match equivalent of Farrow and Ball’s Ammonite which is a lighter grey colour.

By balancing out your navy blue colour with a lighter grey, not only can you incorporate a very popular colour into your space, but you can also tone down the contrast between a dark blue and a lighter white shade.

This will make sure that your space has a subtler transition between the colours, rather than a bolder contrast.

What would be the best colour palette to work with Navy Blue in my Home?

The best colour palette to work with navy blue in your home will definitely vary depending on which colours you currently have in your home, as well as which accessories you choose and even which shade of navy you have chosen to go with!

However, below are some colour palettes which work with navy blue every time!
