The simple answer to this question is no, the longer answer
is yes and no.
Confusing right?
Well, it can be easy to get confused when there are so many
ways that people match their interiors in a balanced way. However, most of them
use the simple 6:3:1 method.
So, this method will ensure that your room is perfectly
balanced no matter what colours you choose to put together!

What is the 6:3:1 Colour Scheme Method?
The easiest way to understand this method is to follow the
simple step-by-step method below:
Use 60% Main Colour
No matter which colour scheme you have chosen to go with:
Greige, Grey, Blue, Pink, Green or any other colour, you will definitely need
to choose a main colour for your space.
The best colour to choose for this is a less bold and bright
colour in order for the majority of the room to have this colour in it.
This part of your colour scheme usually encompasses the wall
paint colour- excluding the feature wall colour which is usually part of the
secondary colour section- as well as the floor colour (carpet, wooden flooring
or otherwise) and a piece of furniture or two.
Although you can match your Blinds to your primary colour,
it is always good for your blinds pattern to incorporate some of your secondary
colour into it in order to balance out the colour scheme of your room. More
information about this is below!

Then use a 30% Secondary Colour
The best way to choose your secondary colour is by choosing
a colour which is of a similar tone to your primary colour- for instance, if
you have chosen a colour with a warm tone, choose a secondary colour with a
warm tone too.
This secondary colour should also only have half the
saturation of your main colour for it to act as a support colour to your main
colour.
Having only half of the saturation of the as the main colour, it can
act as a contrast to the main colour, rather than competing for attention with
the main colour.
By doing this, your secondary colour will add some depth and
variety to your colour scheme, making your room look balanced and equal, rather
than looking flat and uninteresting.

Finally flourish with a 10% Accent Colour
Your final accent colour should constitute only 10% of your
overall colour scheme.
This colour should be a contrasting, but complimentary
colour to your main and secondary colour in your room. The purpose of your
final accent colour is to give a point of interest in your colour scheme.
So, how would I balance a Grey colour scheme with the
60:30:10 rule?
One example of this colour scheme is picking a grey colour
which can work with this colour scheme.
If you are wanting grey to be your main colour, I would
recommend using a lighter grey for your walls, your
carpet and one piece of room accessory such as a side table.
This will help
bring the whole room together as well as bring light and balance into the space
too.
For your secondary colour, you can use a darker grey, but
one with a similar tone, for instance a colder blue tone.
This darker grey
colour can be used on your Blinds, such as Blinds2Go ‘Ahisma Luxe Faux Silk
Silver Roman Blind’.
As for your accent colour, you should also pick a similar
colour tone to your grey colours- in this case a colder colour scheme- with a
colour such as a deep blue or even a darker purple colour.
This grey scheme would work like this:
·
60% Light Grey
·
30% Dark Grey
·
10% Dark blue/ purple
But what happens if I can’t choose my main colour?
This is such a common problem amongst so many people! Main
colours are very difficult to choose as they can change the whole look of your
room!
With so many different colours and so many different colour
scheme to choose from, it can be so difficult to decide on an individual colour
scheme for your space!
No wonder you’re finding it difficult!
However, one of the best ways to choose a colour scheme that
will work for you is to break it down into a colour scheme!
For example, you can choose your primary, secondary and
tertiary colours from a colour wheel in order to break down the individual
colours which you are more inclined to choose!
