What you will need:

Quick Dry Opaque Wood Paint- Colour Match | Decorating Centre Online

When should I paint my fence?

Painting your fence should really be done during the spring/summer months at a time when the weather is going to be relatively good (we are in the UK!) for at least a full 24 hours.

This is to ensure that the Opaque Wood Paint has a long period in order to dry before being exposed to any sort of weather conditions such as rain, sleet etc.

It's also to ensure that you won't get wet painting either! Who wants to paint a fence when it's pouring down outside anyway!?

Our Quick Dry Opaque Wood Paint should not be applied when the temperature is below 10˚C or when rain is imminent.

Which fence paint should I choose?

Fence paint can be tricky to choose from as there are just so many available now!

Fence paints need to be tough, durable and able to be wiped clean too. Our Opaque Wood Paint is perfect for use on fences as it is perfectly designed for exterior use.

The Quick Dry Opaque Wood Paint has an 8 Year Lifespan (so thankfully, you won't have to paint your fence often- unless you want to!)

Quick Dry Opaque Wood Finish gives a long-lasting, all-weather, microporous, protective finish. Ideal for garden furniture and exterior woodwork on both rough sawn and smooth planed timber, it ensures most tasks can be completed in one day.

This fence paint is also available to be colour matched in over 19,000 colours! All you need is the Brand and the Colour Name and we can match that for you!

Or you can choose from our colour palette for a colour you like the look of!

How do I colour match fence paint?

What tools do I need?

Firstly you'll need the paint (obviously!)

I would recommend applying our Opaque Wood Paint with a large brush, such as our Prodec Shed & Fence Brush 4". You might need a smaller brush for trickier areas or patches where a larger brush can't cover.

You'll also need tools to fix your fences and make them smooth before painting. Depending on the conditions of your fence beforehand, you might need a variety of different tools in order to fix them.

For example, if your fence has cracks or holes etc. in you can use a filler in order to make your fence look new again. A great filler for this purpose would be the Red Devil One Time Filler which is designed for both interior and exterior use.

Make sure that your fence is perfectly smooth and has the best finish possible for your fence paint to look the very best it can once fully cured.

Sanding your fence lightly in areas where the previous paint has flaked, or you have repaired/filled areas would be a good idea to give a nice finish. Sanding pads would be a good idea for this.

For a comprehensive list of what you'll need to paint your fences, see the list above.

How to Paint your Fence: Step-By-Step Guide

Step 1: CHOOSE YOUR COLOUR

With over 19,000 colours to choose from, you can choose your own Big Brand & Colour, or you can pick from our paint palette on our website!

Step 2: REMOVE HARDWARE

Remove any hardware from your door that you can such as nails, hanging plant pots, or anything else from the fence. Sand down any rough areas or splinters sticking out off the panels

Step 3: REPAIR DAMAGES

Ensure all timber to be treated is sound, clean, dry and free from dust, grease, polish or any other surface contaminant. Treat any mould or lichen with a fungicidal wash as directed. Fill any cracks, holes, or other forms of damages before painting.

Step 4: PREPARE THE AREA

Cover any foliage, grass or anything else in your garden using dust sheets in order to protect the area from any accidental paint spillages or splatters.

Step 5: PAINT THE FENCE

Using our Opaque Wood Paint, either paint or spray the fence. If you're painting the fence, use a fence paintbrush (large size) to paint the panels with as well as a smaller brush for the trickier areas of the fence.

Step 6: LEAVE TO DRY

Leave the Opaque Wood Paint to dry. It is touch dry in 2–4 hours & recoatable after 4 hours.

Step 7: RECOAT

Recoat after 4 hours using the same advice as above & you're all done!

Step 8: HAVE A CUPPA, YOU'RE DONE!

Make sure that you thoroughly read the instructions of the back of the tin regarding drying/curing times etc. in order for your paint to provide the best finish on your fences (or another outdoor surface you're going to use it on!)
